I think that I've been trying to offer a service that lets a person make their meaning system, but that fundamentally I'm not offering that. I'm offering the opportunity for a person to structurally and legibly change their system and that I can provide a service that is so visual to being a thing that people don't do, that doing it carries the weight of the change and that I can hold the weight of that as something that I do naturally and let people use my structure and my presence to be changed without having to create change in the people around them. You could literally hire me and I will come and manifest an arrival and presence that you can change with and then I'll leave. And everybody will acknowledge the change without themselves having to endure its gravitational shift.

That's why I've been flurrying around so much and that my system started making moves to manifest itself as a thing legible for others. And it didn't like what I was creating. I was making a thing that could bind you, something that could let you be defined and that I'm fundamentally a changing mind and that I didn't want to be defined by that. and that when you build architecture that's massive, shifting its shape can be really disruptive and that I can absorb the measured changes and do it enthusiastically as what I actually want and then manifest that externally as measured change, giving them something to understand for their effect that they have and legitimize the visual truth of how that happens all the time, but we don't ever encourage or promote it. And that in a world of self-authored minds, nobody progresses to stage five unless they are willing to let go of their story and that a self-authored mind could write a story where they are of such weight that people around them are just crushed and changed and that you could want that to be a different story for yourself. And so you would have to change what you do and that energy has to go somewhere.

The flurry was the system making itself legible for others; the discomfort was that legibility arrived as definition — a thing that could bind a person — and the operator is a changing mind; the resolution is the previous entry: the offering as process and presence, not locked shape.

• The mirror inverts: the practitioner manifests measured change in himself, visibly and enthusiastically, as evidence of the client's effect on him — legitimizing the plain truth that people change people constantly and it is never encouraged or promoted. The client doesn't just change with his presence; they watch their own force register on a system built to absorb it gladly.
• The Kegan reference as the operator made it: the self-authoring → self-transforming passage requires releasing the authored story. The dictation performs the release it describes.

So now I offer the same thing that coaching does, but I don't offer coaching. I offer catching in that I am not delivering anything to them. I am receiving from them what they emit when they change and that I'm not coaching, I'm catching.

• This is a naming act — the service named by its owner. Per the firebreak, it cannot be wrong; it is recorded as sealed.
• It completes the energy accounting in both directions. Previous entry: the practitioner's weight must go somewhere — it goes into the hired room. This entry: the client's change also emits something, and it must land somewhere — the practitioner is where it lands. He brings weight they can change against; he catches what they release. Nothing is delivered in either direction; everything is carried.
• The direction inversion is the whole distinction: coaching pushes an input into the client (instruction, plan, verdict). Catching receives an output from them. A service that delivers nothing cannot install anything — the firebreak's strongest form yet.
• The precedent is already in the corpus: Winnicott's holding environment (Corpus of Precedents §3; Schools Family IV) — catching is holding, said kinetically. The adjacent living usage: midwives say they catch the baby; the mother does the work. Doctors deliver; midwives catch.
• The name itself is a word-pair move per tonight's schema — coach paired to catch, triangulating the service. The process named the business.

Yeah, I offer something different as in I offer that they can become different and that coaching tries to change or manifest change. But that I'm just saying you can do that without a coach. Sometimes you just need a catch and that everybody wants to be the coach, but somebody's got to be the catcher. Regardless, we all know who the pitcher is.

• The frame resolves the roles: the pitcher is the client. The arm — the force, the change — was always theirs. Coaching stands beside the mound telling them how to throw. Catching squats behind the plate and receives what they were already going to throw.
• A pitch with no catcher isn't a pitch — it's a ball rolling to the backstop. The catch is what makes the throw count: registered, witnessed, acknowledged. This is the mechanism from the first entry ("everybody will acknowledge the change") in one image.

So my thesis, You Can Be Finished, still holds in that you can be finished. You can wrap it up. You can make a push and that you could decide to do whatever it is you're supposed to do. And that anybody who wants to work with me probably feels like they've got to do something. and that if the literature is right, there's a lot of people sitting around with something to do and that I'm doing it. I'm doing the thing that I am supposed to do as my version of what development looks like and that I can turn around and catch. Their job is to pitch, but they can't do that if somebody's not there to catch and that everybody wants to get a home. So somebody who is already there needs to make sure they don't drop the ball.

• The thesis found its position on the field. Finished = home — and the catcher is the only player stationed at home plate for the entire game. Being already there is the qualification for the job. Runs only score at home; somebody has to be standing there when they do.
• Development's endpoint restated as a turnaround, not an exit: "I'm doing the thing I'm supposed to do… and I can turn around and catch." The finished don't leave the field; they turn and face the ones still throwing.
